Emily Chou | Vancouver Lifestyle Portrait Photographer

Since we were little,  Miss Emily Chou and I have been friends. Throughout the years, we've watched each other grow; we are practically family. She is currently in her last year studying at UBC in Vancouver. Wanting to become a writer, she told me a few things about herself that I didn't even know!

Get to know Miss Emily Chou:

When did you realize that creative writing was something you were interested in?
I was always that nerdy kid making up stories, drawing pictures, and being a total BLAST at parties so I guess a creative path was always a certainty. It was really just a matter of what. I'll be honest, I never thought that writing was something I was good at (I almost failed grade 10 english!!) but a lot of teachers kept pushing me and telling me that I really did have some iota of talent hidden away, so I guess I owe it to them.

What inspires you to write?
I write for the beastly little girls and the monstrous women, the ones with soft voices and sharp teeth. I write for the lost things we keep inside us, the almost-kisses and the maybe-loves, the phone calls we never made and the kingdoms we built as children but don't fit inside anymore. I'm inspired by strangers on the bus, fairy tales, old films, anthropological texts, and butterfly boxes. But I'm also inspired by laughter. I want people to smile at silly things.

You can read her currently recognized work here on Lemon Hound. It's quite the poem!

We had a lot of fun shooting her lifestyle portraits!

Corri & Charles | Vancouver Engagement Photographer

Corri & Charles' engagement session took place in their new home-to-be. We then went to Spanish Banks, where the sun that late afternoon was setting beautifully in the distance, as seen in the last few images. This was my first time photographing them, and for any couple it can be a bit nerve-racking to open themselves to a stranger (with a camera). An engagement session including a wedding package is a great thing to have. You, (the photographer), gets to learn and understand the bride and groom to be and how they work together in front of the camera. Moreover, couples get a sense of how you work. Corri & Charles were both easy going and down to earth. I had a fun and enjoyable experience taking their engagement photos.

I cannot wait to photograph their wedding day on March 14th!

Puppy Love | Vancouver Dog Photographer

This past summer, I got to help out at a dog photo shoot. 7 Doberman puppies were the most difficult clients to shoot by far! They were all at 7 weeks old when we photographed them. Some were timid and some wouldn't stop moving, making it difficult to get the perfect shot. Martin Szabo photographed the puppies and I got to experience what it was like to photograph four legged and furry friends. Here are some shots that I took during the shoot. IMG_6638-1

Tea in the garden | Vancouver Food Photography

It's always a favourite of mine in the summer: tea time. Whether you're inside enjoying a cuppa or outside on a terrace, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, it's always time for tea. Here are some photos from my last afternoon spent in Vancouver this past summer. We were lucky to have tea on a beautiful veranda of very good friends of ours. It was delightful to say the least.
