That's Life Gourmet 20 Year Anniversary | Vancouver Event Photography

It's been a while since I've done some blogging about food and beverage, so I thought to write about a special event that marked 20 years of That's Life Gourmet. On September 20th, their largest portfolio tasting included over 100 products and attracted many guests. Be that I work as their media coordinator and photographer, I was able to document the afternoon and pour some of our newest products that we now have in BC. I would like to congratulate TLG on their success and the milestone they have reached. You can find out more on their blog about the event here. Saluté!

Sake & Cheese Pairing with That's Life Gourmet | Vancouver Event Photographer

On February 25, That's Life Gourmet held a sake and cheese pairing with Fukumitsuya's sakes at Minami Restaurant in Yaletown. Junichi Yageta came to Vancouver to showcase the Fukumitsuya brewery and its wonderful sakes. Here is a preview of what went down at Minami that evening. It was a sold out event! Make sure you keep up with TLG and their events throughout the year because they are not only very informative but fun and enjoyable too!

Food Photography | Toronto Food Photographer

For my final portfolio in my Directed Studio class at OCAD U, I decided to embark on a new adventure: exploring food photography. I am hoping to make food look as delicious as they taste. This particular series was presented as my final portfolio of my first semester. The first image you see, was shot in Little India in downtown Toronto, where I got to experience the spicy and sweet taste of Puris. The images following were shot at the Chef's House by George Brown College. The students at the restaurant are chefs in training, who produced a wonderful lunch menu for me to photograph. Enjoy! "cake." | Toronto Videographer & Photographer

Ever wonder how you can combine a still image with a video? Time & Stillness was the theme of the first project from my Hybrid Photography class - where we learn how to use the dSLR as a video tool as well as being an image capturing tool. We looked at many videos to come up with a tableau of our own. In this case, I wanted to play with the idea of cake and that it is used in the typical ritual of birthdays and celebrations.

"The work plays with the absence and presence of a celebration.

The photograph is a picture of the cake itself lit up. The in-action capture of the sparkler and the candles, create a portrait of the cake in its entirety. The everlasting of the celebration is captured in the photograph. However, the video represents the celebration from beginning to the end. The image and the video help to convey a celebration or ritual shared between two people who are absent and present.

The two mediums play off one another in that the image represents an ever-lasting celebration that has no end.  Moreover, the video is a performance of the ritual.  The cake’s candles are blown out, then taken apart, and finally eaten. The stillness becomes the timeless piece. The image depicts an endless celebration, one that takes place everyday in society. On the other hand, the timepiece plays a sequence, a story with a beginning and an end.  To conclude, I feel that both mediums work well with one another as they both speak to the same subject matter but in different and effective ways."
